RALPH T. GILMER - Founder and CEO
YNEZ (BLISS) Gilmer - Executive Vice President
Ralph Gilmer
I'm in the twi-light years of my second career as a successful Realtor and Loan consultant in Los Angeles, California. My first career was in construction. I began as a sprinkler fitter and advancing to construction management. One of my most noted projects was Chicago's Sears towers, one of the tallest buildings in the world. I was part of the management team hired because of my ability to be innovative and motivate people.

Through the years I have had a great compassion for people, especially children. My highest accomplishments second only to being a husband to my fantastic wife, father of 4 sons, that are diabetic, grandfather of 13 and 2 great grandsons. I was instrumental in organizing and raising 2.7 million dollars to expand a public library in the Los Angeles inner city for the children.
Bliss Gilmer

I am an adult education teacher, and I teach Parent Education for the Los Angeles Unified School District. I also taught in the profession of gerontology for several years.

My under graduate studies included four years of psychology, and sociology focusing on gerontology. My graduate studies were Behavior Science.I was involved in community work with my husband Ralph which was SCOC and the Vassie D. Wright library.

My interest is in diabetes due to our large population of children that are obese and the many that are diabetics. I also have four sons, three of them are diabetics and my mother was a diabetic. My mother lost her eye sight because of glaucoma due to her being a diabetic. I am not just interested about diabetes. I am greatly concerned about the disease!

There are too many parents, teachers, and children in this
country with no awareness about diabetes. We must help adults and children to become aware by educating them
about diabetes and obesity.

David Gilmer
David R. Gilmer has been distinguished teacher in the Compton Unified School District for the last ten years. He is currently is a 5th grade / intervention teacher at McKinley Elementary School. He has a degree in Telec-ommunications and also is pursuing an Administrative Credential and Masters Degree.
During his tenure in Compton, Mr. Gilmer has taught children with the most challenging behaviors and attitudes. “I have a special place in my heart for children that are struggling,” he says. “They have a spirit and determination that, once channeled, are genuine forces for progress. He believes the adage that, “children don’t care what know until they know that you care.”

Mr. Gilmer has shown that he cares, as a volunteer basketball coach, for the last 25 years. He and his brothers founded the Basketball Preparatory Academy (BPA), a non-profit organization that teaches fundamental basketball and sponsors their five traveling teams. He has witnessed first hand the epidemic of childhood obesity over the last 25 years and has tried to combat it through basketball conditioning. Nevertheless, he realized that there was another factor to the equation that had to be dealt with in another way; CHILD-ONSET DIABETES.

Being a Type-2 diabetic, Mr. Gilmer began to realize that many children were struggling with diabetes. Furthermore, he learned that many children have never been tested for diabetes. He saw the opportunity to show that he cares and made a commitment to use his knowledge and skills to educate children and their parents about diabetes. This is why this web-site is so important. He knows that there can never be enough advocates for children with diabetes. Therefore, he will be a teacher, motivator, and coach to children wherever he finds them.
